Solid Quartz Stones aren’t exactly Quartz Engineered Surfaces
People often confused Quartz stone and the Engineered Quartz surfaces as the same. They are not! Approximately 10% of the material volume found in quartz countertop isn’t the actual Quartz stone. It consists of different compounds like resins, polymers and pigments. 90% of it consists of crushed up quartz stone, marble, and even recycled industrial waste like glass and mirrors. So that is the difference between raw quartz stone and Quartz engineered stone used for Countertops and surfaces.
Quartz Engineered Surfaces/Countertop are more durable than Granite and Marble!
We often think of ‘Natural’ as much stronger and durable and ‘Artificial’ as something that won’t last longer and will break easily. Well, that isn’t the case here. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Quartz countertops which are artificially engineered along with other compounds. This quality makes them much stronger than marble and granite. While Granite is a 6 on Mohs Scale, in contrast to diamond which is a 10, Quartz is a 7. This is because while granite has 60% of quartz content in it at most, quartz engineered stone has 90% of it and marble contains no content of quartz.
Quartz Engineered Surfaces and Countertops are sensitive to excessive heat and sunlight
Since Quartz Engineered Surfaces and Countertops are made with chemical reactions between materials such as resin, and other polymers, overexposure to heat/sunlight and UV rays can trigger damage and potentially mess up the reactions that formed the countertop in the first place. Excessive heat and sunlight can also discolour the Quartz Engineered Surfaces and change its original color. E.g if you are using a Quartz countertop in your kitchen and take out a hot Pan to keep directly on the countertop, it is highly likely your Quartz surface will get damaged or burned. A simple way to avoid damages like these would be placing freshly heated pans or other hot objects on hot pads or trivets that can protect the Quartz countertop from damage.
No two Quartz Engineered Surfaces, manufactured by different brands, will look the same
All engineered Quartz stones are taken from similar sources and then changes are made into them in order to produce different kinds of designs, patterns and colours. Since this is how it happens, no two Quartz Engineered stones made by two different companies will look the same. They will always have their own unique design and pattern.
Quartz are rapidly taking over the Granite audience
Over the time, and the changes in the interior design fashions and trends has led us to choose Quartz Engineered surfaces over Granite surfaces. Due to it’s numerous qualities such as non-porous surface which prevents dirt and bacteria to stay, its diverse range of patterns and colours and its neat and clean look, people are now choosing Quartz Engineered surfaces for their homes, offices and other places, for countertops, for floors and more!
Quartz Engineered countertops and surfaces are much denser than granite/marble
Their man-made production process and involvement of so many chemical reactions and materials make Quartz surfaces much denser. This means they are much heavier and harder to handle. Therefore, the process of fabrication and installing of quartz countertops in your house or offices cannot be done by yourself. For it to go properly and smoothly, it is important then you get professionals who have been installing these for years and have enough know how of these Quartz surfaces.
